Demi Lovato has shared the happy news that she is engaged.
The 27-year-old singer posted photos on Instagram taken moments after her actor-musician beau Max Ehrich, 29, popped the question on a Malibu beach with a diamond ring by jeweler Peter Marco.
“When I was a little girl, my birth dad always called me his ‘little partner’ – something that might’ve sounded strange without his southern cowboy like accent,” Lovato wrote. “To me it made perfect sense. And today that word makes perfect sense again but today I’m officially going to be someone else’s partner.”
Lovato then aimed her words at her fiancé. “I knew I loved you the moment I met you. It was something I can’t describe to anyone who hasn’t experienced it firsthand but luckily you did too.
“I’ve never felt so unconditionally loved by someone in my life (other than my parents) flaws and all. You never pressure me to be anything other than myself. And you make me want to be the best version of myself.”
Lovato said she was honoured to accept his proposal. “I love you more than a caption could express but I’m ecstatic to start a family and life with you,” she wrote. “I love you forever my baby. My partner. Here’s to our future!!!!"
Ehrich was equally effusive. "You are every love song, every film, every lyric, every poem, everything I could ever dream of and then some in a partner in life,” he shared on Instagram. “Words cannot express how infinitely in love with you I am forever and always and then some. I cannot spend another second of my time here on Earth without the miracle of having you as my wife.”
It will be the first marriage for Lovato, who has identified as sexually fluid. “I think love is love. You can find it in any gender," she told InStyle in 2018.
Ehrich is best known for playing Fenmore Baldwin on The Young and the Restless from 2012 to 2015. He co-wrote and performed the song “Ride” for the 2019 streaming film Walk. Ride. Rodeo, in which he starred.
The engagement came only months after the pair started dating and just two days shy of the second anniversary of her near-fatal drug overdose.
