Demi Lovato spoke out Sunday for the first time since being hospitalized on July 24 for a drug overdose.
"I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction," the singer wrote in a message shared on Instagram. "What I've learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time.
"It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet."
The 25-year-old did not share any details of her overdose. She was reportedly found unconscious inside her Hollywood Hills home and administered Narcan, a brand of naloxone used in cases of opiod overdoses.

Lovato said she looks forward "to the day where I can say I came out on the other side."
The letter concluded with a promise. "I will keep fighting."
