Green Day were abruptly forced to leave the stage during their performance at Comerica Park in Detroit, MI last night (September 4).
The band were in the middle of playing their hit "Longview," when they were hurried off stage due to a “potential safety issue.”
The concert was paused for about ten minutes, with a message on the screen reading, "Show Pause. Please standby for details."
When they returned to the stage, Billie Joe Armstrong announced, “There’s no motherf**ker gonna stop us!” as they picked up where they left off. Armstrong then checked in with the crowd and asked that they put their phones away and simply enjoy the moment.
No reason was given for the pause, however, the band later posted on socials, "Detroit! Sorry for the delay in the show tonight, Stadium security had us clear the stage while they dealt with a potential safety issue. DPD quickly resolved the situation, and we were able to continue. Thanks for understanding."
Regarding the incident, Detroit Police Cpl. Dan Donakowski told The Detroit News, "There was an individual that flew a drone into Comerica Park, so Green Day was taken off stage. Shortly after that, they went back on stage to perform. DPD located this individual outside of Comerica Park. He is being detained pending further investigation."
Green Day are currently travelling across North America on The Saviors Tour with Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid and The Linda Lindas.
