Hedley singer Jacob Hoggard is the subject of an investigation by the Sex Crimes unit of Toronto Police.
A police spokesperson confirmed on Friday that there is an ongoing investigation but no charges have been filed.
Last month, an Ottawa woman came forward with allegations that Hoggard sexually assaulted her at Toronto’s Thompson Hotel in November 2016. Hoggard’s lawyer said in a statement that the sex was consensual.
Previously, accusations of sexual misconduct by members of Hedley surfaced on social media. The band initially reacted with a statement in which they said “there are at least two sides to every story” but admitted they previously “engaged in a lifestyle that incorporated certain rock and roll clichés.”
Hedley was dumped by its booking agency and dropped from the Juno Awards. Its songs were removed from radio station playlists across the country. And, Neon Dreams, Shawn Hook and Liteyears pulled out as opening acts on the band’s Cageless tour.
The tour, which wraps up March 23 in Kelowna, has seen Hedley performing in front of small crowds. A concert in Windsor, Ont. was scrapped by the venue.
Hoggard, 33, said on social media that he will be “taking a serious step back in order to make real changes in my life, seek guidance from family and continue to grow and learn from the amazing women in my life.”
Both he and his band said they will put their music careers on hold “indefinitely.”
Hoggard insisted: “I have never engaged in non-consensual sexual behaviour in my life. Ever.”
