Jennifer Lopez has no time for the outrage culture that permeates social media.
The pop star on Saturday responded to criticism that her Super Bowl half time performance with Shakira on Feb. 2 was too hot for prime time.
“That’s honestly silliness,” Lopez told Variety.
“We (put on) a show that I believe was a celebration of women and our Latino culture that I think was really well reserved. And that small faction of people who want to be negative about it, I can’t even let in.”
J-Lo said both she and Shakira are “really respectful performers who are moms and have kids and are very conscious of what we do.”
The sizzling Super Bowl set earned raves from fans and music artists like Lady Gaga and Keith Urban. But some viewers (whose TV remotes must have malfunctioned during the half time show) took to social media to complain that it was too sexy. Or, as Valerie Williams noted at Scary Mommy, “A bunch of folks with their panties in a permanently tight wad could only think to comment on their outfits, or perceived lack thereof.”
One Twitter user described the performance as “a prime example of the pornification of society.”
On Saturday, Lopez brushed it off. “The message of standing up for yourself, being a women – that’s what I want to pass on to little girls – everything about you – be proud of it,” she said. “I’m very proud of the performance that night.”
