Brian Wilson, co-founder of the Beach Boys, is set to be placed under a conservatorship following a Los Angeles Superior Court ruling yesterday (May 9).
Judge Gus T. May approved the petition filed by Wilson's family and representives, stating, “I find from clear and convincing evidence that a conservatorship of the person is necessary.”
May appointed Wilson's longtime publicist Jean Sievers and manager LeeAnn Hard as his conservators, without any significant objections raised.
Through their attorney, Wilson's daughters, Carnie and Wendy (of Wilson Phillips fame), asked that all seven of his children be included in a group text chain and consulted about all medical decisions regarding their father.
Court documents state that the 81-year-old is “unable to care for his person,” and “lacks capacity to give informed medical consent for medications” due to a “major neurocognitive disorder."
Back in February, Wilson's family and longtime representatives petitioned a court to appoint them as his co-conservators, following the passing of Wilson's wife and manager, Melinda Ledbetter, in January.
