Kanye West gave a shout out on social media over the weekend to student activist Emma González.
The controversial rapper, who is drawing fire for his public support of U.S. president Donald Trump, shared a photo of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas student with the caption: “My hero Emma Gonzalez.”
He followed up with a photo of himself with a shaved head. “Inspired by Emma.”

González has been front-and-centre in the gun control debate in the U.S. ever since a mass shooting at her Parkland, Florida school.
The teenager evidently saw West’s tribute – but didn’t respond directly. Instead, González shared a photo of the man who stopped a mass shooting at a Tennessee Waffle House earlier this month.
“My hero James Shaw Jr,” she wrote.
