Kodak Black was nominated Tuesday in the Top New Artist category at the Billboard Music Awards – but he will have to watch the show from behind bars.
The 20-year-old rapper will remain in a Florida jail until September, according to a deal his lawyer reached with prosecutors on Tuesday.
Black, whose real name is Dieuson Octave, was arrested earlier this year after someone live-streamed video from inside his house showing marijuana and guns around an infant. He was under house arrest at the time.
Since 2015, Black has been charged with a long list of offences – felony criminal sexual conduct, robbery, battery, false imprisonment of a child, possession of marijuana, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, fleeing from officers – and has been in and out of jail.
Under the new deal, Black will not be subject to house arrest or probation following his release.
