Country singer Kylie Rae Harris was drunk and speeding when she caused a crash that killed her and the 16-year-old driver of another vehicle.
The three-vehicle accident happened Sept. 4 on a New Mexico highway as Harris was on her way to perform at the Big Barn Dance Music Festival in Taos. In her final social media post, she said she was running low on fuel.
According to a press release from Taos Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe, the 30-year-old singer had a blood-alcohol level of .28 – more than three times the legal limit – and was driving 102 miles per hour when she clipped the car in front of her and slammed into an SUV driven by Maria Elena Cruz.
The driver of the third car escaped injury.
In 2017, Harris was ordered to install a breathalyzer device in her car following a DUI conviction in Texas.
The mother of a young daughter released a self-titled EP earlier this year.
