Lana Del Rey has revealed that she will release her first country album later this year.

Titled Lasso, her tenth album was produced by regular collaborator Jack Antonoff and is expected some time in September, the singer spilled the beans during the Billboard Power 100 Party 2024 in Los Angeles on Wednesday (January 31).

Speaking to the press, Del Rey spoke about how she sees the music industry moving in the direction of country, so it felt like a natural progression for her.

“If you can’t already tell by our award winners and our performers, the music business is going country,” she said. “We’re going country. It’s happening. That’s why Jack has followed me to Muscle Shoals, Nashville, Mississippi, over the last four years.”

The Coachella headliner has long shown an affinity for country music, having covered classics such as John Denver‘s “Take Me Home, Country Roads" and Tammy Wynette‘s “Stand By Your Man.”

In 2021 she also teased the release of an entire album of country covers, explaining to MOJO, “I went back and listened to ‘Ride’ and ‘Video Games’ and thought, you know they’re kind of country. Maybe the way ‘Video Games’ got remastered, they’re pop – but there’s something Americana about it for sure.”

Unfortunately that album hasn't seen the light of day yet, but perhaps we can expect some of those covers to appear on Lasso.

Lana Del Rey is nominated for five Grammy awards this weekend, including Album of the Year for 2023's Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd and Song of the Year for "A&W."
