Lil Uzi Vert fans were reeling this weekend from news that the rapper announced he is calling quits.
“I wanna take the time out to say I thank each and every one of my supports, but I’m done with music,” he wrote in an Instagram Story on Friday. “I deleted everything. I wanna be normal… I wanna wake up in 2013.”
So far, there's been no follow-up from Lil Uzi and no comment from his reps or record label.
The 24-year-old, whose real name is Symere Woods, signed his record deal in 2014 and released his debut studio album, Luv is Rage 2 in 2017.
His sophomore album, Eternal Awake, was expected some time this year. Last month, Lil Uzi told fans the album was finished.
The rap star has said he was deeply affected by the deaths of Lil Peep and XXXTentacion.
“Sober 2 day I have been shaking," he tweeted in November 2017, shortly after Lil Peep died of a drug overdose. “I have been cursing my love ones out and fighting. In the studio with no thoughts in my head. Teeth biting down because I just wanna be angry at something ... Maybe I will just smoke weed tonight.”
Following the murder of XXXTentacion last June, Lil Uzi pledged to raise money for the rapper’s family. “I want to start a fund/foundation to make sure his child and family are well taken care of not just temporary but for life,” he tweeted.
