Two new versions of the Canadian classic “Rise Up” have been released as part of the 35th anniversary of the Parachute Club song.
The Anniversary Version and Diesel Remix, recorded under the name The New Parachute Collective, feature original Parachute Club members Lorraine Segato, Julie Masi and David Gray along with Theo Tams, Jimmy Chauveau, Jilea, Kayla Diamond, Maya Kiltron and spoken word artist Britta Badour.
Profits from streams and downloads of the single to the Toronto Foundation in support of four non-profit organizations.
“The enduring appeal of this song has inspired us to celebrate its legacy with a campaign to engage, celebrate and honour a new generation of social justice activists who are shaping the future,” Segato explained, in a release.
“It’s time to pass the baton and elevate the work of the impressive young activists of today. Every transformational moment needs a song to dance to, to celebrate and rally around.”
The original “Rise Up,” produced by Daniel Lanois, appeared on Parachute Club’s 1983 self-titled debut album. A Top 10 hit in Canada, it was named Single of the Year at the Juno Awards in 1984.
Last fall, a country version was released with the voices of artists like Gord Bamford, Meghan Patrick, Tim Hicks, Kira Isabella, Brett Kissel and Jess Moskaluke.
“In 1983 we made a call for equality and empowerment and our enduring positive message is as relevant today,” said Segato.
