Canadian singer Serena Ryder is giving us a taste of her forthcoming album with a sweet new song, “Candy.”
The song is about “being vulnerable and the many layers to being a human on the path to wellness,” Ryder explained, in a release, and “an intro to let everyone know that I’m about to show my softer, more vulnerable side with this new record.”
Her first non-holiday studio album since 2017’s Utopia, The Art of Falling Apart chronicles the 37-year-old’s struggle with mental health and her journey to wellness. Its 10 tracks were recorded over a period of only 10 days.
“I’m candy / I’m sweet / Unwrap me,” Ryder sings in the chorus of the album’s lead single. “I’m candy / I’m sweet / Understand me.”
A video for the track, starring National Ballet of Canada dancer Tanya Howard, will premiere soon.
