Shawn Mendes fans were rewarded overnight with the Canadian singer’s new single, “In My Blood” – the first taste of his upcoming third album.
Hours before the song debuted, Mendes shared a message on social media. “This song is the closest song to my heart that I’ve ever written & I hope you guys love it and all the new music coming your way,” the 19-year-old wrote. “Just wanted to … say how excited I am for you all to hear it.”
Mendes thanked his fans for their loyalty. “I know I’ve been pretty quiet during this album process & I just wanted to thank you with all of my heart for being there and supporting me the entire time,” he wrote.
“I love and appreciate you all so much!! Thank you!”
Last month, Mendes tweeted: "Excited for you to hear all the new music. Feels like its been forever working on it, put all I have into this album. Hang in there just a little longer."
Mendes is gearing up for a string of festival gigs this summer (including in Ottawa, Quebec City and PEI) to support the new album.
The new album follows 2016’s Illuminate and 2015’s Handwritten. Those albums spawned hits like “Something Big,” “Stitches,” “Treat You Better,” “Mercy” and “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back.”
Mendes has a pair of nominations at this year's Juno Awards – Single of the Year for "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back" and the Fan Choice Award.
Fans will get to hear Mendes’ new material as he does the festival rounds this summer, including Bluesfest in Ottawa on July 7, Festival D’été in Quebec City on July 8, and Cavendish Beach Music Festival in PEI on July 9.
"Absolutely dying to get back on the road," Mendes tweeted on Feb. 27. "With all new music."
On Wednesday it was announced that Mendes will perform for Queen Elizabeth II at London’s Royal Albert Hall on April 21.
