Loretta Lynn says she is “not happy at all” about the state of country music.
The 87-year-old legend appeared recently on Martina McBride’s podcast Vocal Point and suggested the genre is finished.
“It’s dead. It’s a shame. It’s a shame to let a type of music die,” Lynn said. “I don’t care what any kind of music it is: rock, country, whatever. It’s a shame to let it die, and I’m here to start feeding it.”
Lynn fumed: "That’s a sad situation because we should never let country music die. Every type of music should be saved, and country is one of the greatest. It’s been around, as far as I’m concerned, longer than any of it.”
When McBride noted that Lynn appears to be angry about today’s country music, she replied: “Yeah. I’m getting mad about it. I am. Because it’s ridiculous.”
Lynn has been largely out of the spotlight since suffering a stroke in 2017 and breaking her hip in 2018. Her 45th solo studio album, Wouldn’t It Be Great, was released in 2018.
