Madonna has pulled the plug on all three of her upcoming shows in Boston because she is suffering “overwhelming” pain.
“Please forgive this unexpected turn of events,” the 61-year-old singer told fans in an Instagram post. “Doing my show every night brings me so much joy and to cancel is a kind of punishment for me, but the pain I’m in right now is overwhelming and I must rest and follow doctor’s orders so I can come back stronger and better and continue the Madame X journey with all of you.”
Madonna’s shows on Nov. 30, Dec. 1 and Dec. 2 will not be rescheduled, so ticket holders will receive full refunds.
At her San Francisco shows earlier this month, Madonna said she had a torn ligament in her knee. In a Nov. 17 Instagram post, she shared a photo of herself getting into an ice bath and captioned it with: “Best treatment for injuries!!”

The Madame X tour has been plagued with delays and cancellations. Its launch in September was postponed five days due to issues with “highly specialized production elements” – the same reason given for the cancellation of a Nov. 12 show in Los Angeles. She also bumped her Oct. 31 show in San Francisco to Nov. 5.
Madonna scrapped an Oct. 7 show in Brooklyn due to a knee injury.
The Madame X tour is scheduled to resume on Dec. 7 in Philadelphia before moving to Miami Beach, Lisbon, London and Paris.
The album Madame X, released in June, disappeared from the Billboard 200 chart after only two weeks. The following week, the album tumbled 76 spots – the year’s biggest fall from No. 1 and the fourth-farthest drop ever. In its third week, the album fell off the chart.
In Canada, Madame X debuted at No. 2 and then dropped to No. 38, and then to No. 85, before disappearing from the Top 100.
