Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine told fans in London, England last Friday that he has beaten cancer.
“On October 16, I went to go see the doctor, and he said, 'You're 100 percent free of cancer,’” the 58-year-old said during a break in the band’s concert. “That doesn’t mean it can’t come back.”
Mustaine said he underwent 51 radiation treatments and nine chemotherapy treatments after being diagnosed with throat cancer early last year.
He said he couldn’t “face not playing again” and drew strength from Megadeth fans. "I thought about you guys every day … and I got this power from you guys."
Last June, Mustaine shared his diagnosis in an Instagram post. “I’m working closely with my doctors, and we’ve mapped out a treatment plan which they feel has a 90% success rate,” he said. “Treatment has already begun.”
Mustaine played guitar in Metallica before becoming lead vocalist of Megadeth in 1983.
