Michael Bublé said he hopes Canadian families will feel connected while watching Stronger Together, Tous Ensemble on Sunday night.
The singer is one of dozens of music stars, athletes and celebrities taking part in the 90-minute special. Broadcast on just about every network and streaming online, the show is a tribute to frontline workers and will raise funds for Food Banks Canada.
“For the first time in history, not just all of Canada, the whole wide world – it doesn’t matter what religion you are, doesn’t matter what colour, whether you’re gay or straight, rich or poor – every single person is scared and uncertain and there is no answer,” Bublé said during a virtual press conference on Friday. “All we can do is try to love each other and all we can do is try and take it a day at a time and keep perspective.”
Since the COVID-19 lockdown began, Bublé has been isolating at his Vancouver home with wife Luisana Lopilato and their children.
"My family’s scared. We’re worried for our moms and dads and people who are vulnerable in our family,” he shared. “Just like every other family in our country, we have good days and we have bad days. We have moments where we are uncertain and we are scared and we are worried and we just try to keep a positive, good perspective.”

Bublé called on young people, in particular, to step up. “Be there for people who are vulnerable because even though you may be young and you may feel like you’re invincible … those old people that some young people think are disposable – which is completely blasphemous to me but some young people do – I just really hope that their parents or people in their lives remind them that the reason why they live the life that they do in this country is because of those people,” he said.
“Because those people gave us those freedoms, they fought for us and when the poo hit the fan those people were the people that showed how valiant they were. We’re being asked to do a lot less.”
Bublé urged everyone to continue social distancing and to think of others. “Call your friends. Call people that you know are alone and lonely,” he said. “Be in their lives.”
The singer said he felt it was his duty and responsibility to contribute to Stronger Together, Tous Ensemble.
Bublé has already appeared on Global Citizen’s One World: Together At Home (where he sang “God Only Knows”) and on the Disney Family Singalong (where he and Demi Lovato sang “A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes”).
Asked what it’s like for an artist to perform from home, Bublé said: “I can’t lie. I’m going to be honest. I think, you know, it’s so different that it can be really great and really organic and then there’s other times where, sometimes it’s… it’s not. I don’t know what else to say.
“Sometimes it doesn’t sound as good or look as good. You know, there were things I saw of even myself where I went … I could really use the help with some better lighting or some sound engineer to help my pitchy voice.”
Francophone pop star Marie-Mai was also part of Friday’s press conference and will perform on Stronger Together: Tous Ensemble.
“It’s so important to bring people together,” she said. “People work so hard on the frontlines and risk their own lives to save us, to heal us, so the least that we can do as entertainers is to give back.
“If we can spread some light, if we can spread some love, I’ll be there.”
Stronger Together, Tous Ensemble airs April 26 at 6:30 pm on CTV as well as CTV.ca and the CTV app. It will also be streamed right here on iHeartRadio.ca and on the iHeartRadio Canada app and broadcast on Virgin Radio stations across the country.
