Mick Jagger is recovering in a New York hospital after undergoing a heart valve procedure.
According to Billboard, doctors accessed the Rolling Stones frontman’s heart through his femoral artery – a minimally invasive procedure that eliminates the need to open the chest.
Jagger, 75, will rest for up to five days so the artery can heal and doctors can ensure there is no excess bleeding. While he will be able to move around in a few days, the singer will need to take more time off before he can return to the stage.
On Saturday, the Stones announced they were postponing the North American leg of their No Filter tour so Jagger could undergo medical treatment. An announcement about new dates for the shows is expected soon.
“I’m devastated for having to postpone the tour,” Jagger tweeted, “but I will be working very hard to be back on stage as soon as I can."
The Stones were scheduled to perform June 29 at the Burl’s Creek Event Grounds in Oro-Medonte, north of Toronto, on June 29. According to a source, the band was also set to perform a July 4th show at Quebec City’s FEQ.
