Maroon 5 bassist Mickey Madden said Tuesday he is stepping away from the band.
“I have some things that I need to deal with and address right now and so I have decided to take a leave of absence from Maroon 5 for the foreseeable future,” the 41-year-old musician said, in a statement.
“I do not want to be a distraction to my bandmates. I wish them the absolute best.”
Madden was arrested in late June in Los Angeles for “wilfully” inflicting “traumatic” injury on a cohabitant. The alleged victim was not identified. He is due in court Sept. 29.
At the time, Maroon 5 said in a statement it was “deeply devastated by this disappointing news” and the band is “looking at this very seriously.”
Madden’s hiatus leaves frontman Adam Levine as the only founding member of Maroon 5 still in the band.
Maroon 5 this week announced the rescheduled dates for its summer tour, which was postponed due to COVID-19. The group will play Vancouver on July 31, 2021, Edmonton on Aug. 3, 2021 and Toronto on Sept. 2, 2021.
