Niall Horan gave fans renewed hope this week when he revealed he is closer than ever to doing a song with his friend Shawn Mendes.
“He’s in the studio at the minute, I know that, and maybe when I get back to L.A. at some point we can jump in,” Horan told a British radio station. “We’re actually talking about it. It’s about time. So at some point we’ll get something done ‘cause it’s in everyone’s interest.”
It’s been a little over a year since Horan and Mendes committed to recording a song together. Responding to a 2019 fan tweet asking about a collaboration, Horan tweeted: “We’re going to try” and Mendes replied “We ARE going to.”
Last October, Horan told iHeartRadio about working on music with his friend and upcoming tour mate Lewis Capaldi. “We’ve written together. One of the very few artists that I have written with...probably the only one,” he said. “We have a song. I haven’t heard it in awhile.”
Horan gave an update in the new interview. “We’ve got one that we think is OK,” he said. “We’re going to have a look at it again soon, I think. We were meant to rewrite it at Christmas and then we never did. We just ended up going drinking.
“We’ll get to it. We’re getting to it soon.”
