Nick Jonas sports a leather aviator cap – and a stylish moustache – in a portrait he shared Tuesday on Instagram.
The 26-year-old is pictured as real-life U.S. Navy First Class Aviation Machinist Mate Bruno Peter Gaido, whom he portrays in the new movie Midway.
Jonas captioned the pic: “A WWII gunner awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his heroic and invaluable efforts in the Battle of Midway.”
The pivotal conflict between the U.S. Navy and the Imperial Japanese Navy during WWII is the focus of Midway, which was directed by Roland Emmerich and shot last fall in Montreal and Hawaii.

Gaido was the gunner in Ensign Frank Woodrow O'Flaherty’s plane, which went down in the ocean. O’Flaherty (played in Midway by Russell Dennis Lewis) and Gaido were captured by the Japanese and interrogated and tortured before being killed. Gaido was in his early 20s when he died.
Jonas has a break from the Happiness Begins Tour from Nov. 2 to 11 so he’ll be able to go see himself on the big screen when Midway opens Nov. 8 – just in time for Veteran’s Day in the U.S. and Remembrance Day in Canada.
