Lil Nas X, whose “Old Town Road” has topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 13 weeks, came out as gay on Sunday via social media.
"Some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not gone fwm no more,” he tweeted on the last day of Pride month, “but before this month ends i want y’all to listen closely to c7osure.” He included a rainbow emoji.
The track he referred to includes lyrics like: “I need to let go, use my time to be free” and “this is what I gotta do, can’t be regrettin’ when I’m old.”

Lil Nas X’s sexuality was not a well-kept secret in the music industry or media, but many fans expressed surprise.
The 20-year-old rapper, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, later tweeted an image of his rainbow-hued EP cover and wrote: “deada** thought i made it obvious.”
Among the first to show support was Canadian music producer and frequent Drake collaborator, Boi-1da, who tweeted: “Go krazy lil bro we love you.”
