A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip took to social media on Tuesday to slam the Grammys for snubbing their final album.
“F*** da Grammys!!!,” he tweeted after last year’s release We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service failed to receive a single nomination.
Q-Tip shared a series of video messages on Instagram to express his frustration. The 47-year-old hip hop artist pointed out that ATCQ performed on last year’s Grammys show less than a year after the death of founding member MC Phife Dawg.
“Y’all f**king busted your a** to try to get us out there to perform. You think a n**** wanted to get out there and perform after I lost my man? We closed your show and we don’t get no f**king nominations? The last Tribe album? My man is gone.
“We’ve been doing this s**t for f***ing years.”
Q-Tip downplayed buzz about how the major categories this year are not dominated by a white male artist. Childish Gambino, Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars and Lorde are vying for Album of the Year this year.
“We were the most black, cultured group out,” he said. “That’s all we stood on. That’s what we represented, This last Tribe album, it stands with everyone else’s s*** that’s up there. I don’t give a f***.
“I’m sick of y’all f***in’ Grammy n****s, man. Ya’ll get us get out there to perform last year and close and s**t, and y’all don’t get us no f***ing nominations? Nice. What happened?”
