Lil Marlo, a rapper who collaborated with Gucci Mane, Future and Lil Baby, was shot to death late Saturday in Atlanta. He was 30.
Police said officers who responded to calls about a single vehicle accident on a highway at around 11:30 p.m. found Marlo, whose real name was Rudolph Johnson, dead behind the wheel.
“At this time, investigators believe the victim was the intended target of the gunfire and they are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting,” Atlanta Police said, in a statement.
Marlo’s label mate Lil Yachty said in an Instagram post that the two had worked on a song together earlier that day.
Marlo signed with Quality Control in 2017 and released 2 the Hard Way with Lil Baby and solo project The Wire. A pair of mixtapes followed in 2018 and earlier this year he dropped 1st & 3rd.
He is survived by children Kemora, Rihanna, Marlo and Rudy.
Marlo is the latest in a growing list of rappers who have been fatally shot in the last year.
In June, Tray Savage (Kentray Young) died after being shot in Chicago at 26 and Bris (Christopher Treadwell) was killed in Sacramento at 24. A month earlier, Toronto rapper Houdini (Dimarjio Jenkins) was shot to death on a downtown Toronto street. He was 21.
Pop Smoke (Bashar Jackson) was killed in February in Los Angeles at 20.
Rapper fourty4double0 – one half of rap duo Tallup Twink – was killed inside a Toronto condo in February. He was 19.
Last December, Toronto area rappers Bvlly and Why-S were killed only hours apart in separate incidents in Ontario and B.C.
