A biopic based on the life of Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis is being developed.
Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to Kiedis' 2004 bestselling memoir, Scar Tissue, a shockingly honest account of his life growing up in Los Angeles described as "a story of dedication and debauchery, intrigue and integrity, recklessness and redemption."
The book details his life growing up with his father, Blackie Dammett, a former drug dealer, and immersing himself in the L.A. punk rock scene, forming Red Hot Chili Peppers and documenting their beginnings and triumphant rise, while simultaneously descending into substance abuse and personal loss.
Previously Scar Tissue was originally planned as a series for HBO in the late 2000s, penned by screenwriter John Sayles, however, the pilot was never picked up.
Kiedis joins a long list of biopics in the works that includes 21 Savage, Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson and Linda Ronstadt, among the higher profile films currently in production.
