Selena Gomez returned to Instagram on Monday, sharing her first post in nearly four months.
“It’s been awhile since you have heard from me, but I wanted to wish everyone a happy new year and to thank you for your love and support,” Gomez wrote in the caption to a set of three black-and-white photos of herself.
“Last year was definitely a year of self-reflection, challenges and growth. It’s always those challenges which show you who you are and what you are capable of overcoming. Trust me, it’s not easy, but I am proud of the person I am becoming and look forward to the year ahead. Love you all.”
Gomez has a whopping 144 million followers on Instagram.
Last September, the pop star told fans she was taking a break from social media. She explained: “As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given..
Gomez reportedly completed mental health treatment last month. In late December, she appeared in photos shared on Instagram by Connar Franklin and Bailee Madison, showing her enjoying a day out with friends.
The 26-year-old has been open about her struggles with mental health. In an interview with Harper's Bazaar published last February, she spoke about anxiety and depression. “It’s a battle I’m gonna have to face for the rest of my life, and I’m okay with that because I know that I’m choosing myself over anything else,” said Gomez.
“I want to make sure I’m healthy. If that’s good, everything else will fall into place.”
