The video for the Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello duet “Señorita” has topped 1 billion views on YouTube after only 10 months.
Directed by Dave Meyers, the steamy visual has Mendes’ motorcycle-riding character showing up at the diner where Cabello’s character works as a waitress and reminding her of what they had. He waits for her behind the restaurant and they ride off into the night, share a dance and supposedly reconnect in a hotel room (oddly, Mendes is still wearing his jeans after the alleged romp).
It took 313 days for “Señorita” to hitting 1 billion views, beating Mendes’ 2016 “Treat You Better” video to the milestone by one day. Cabello’s “Havana” video hit 1 billion in 260 days.
The Canadian artist with the record for the fastest rise to 1 billion on YouTube is Justin Bieber, whose 2015 “Sorry” video did it in 136 days. It currently has nearly 3.3 billion views.
Adele's made-in-Quebec video for "Hello" holds the record for achieving 1 billion views in the shortest amount of time – 87 days. Directed by Canada's Xavier Dolan, it has been played nearly 2.7 billion times since its October 2015 debut.
Released last June, “Señorita” became the first No. 1 hit for Mendes and the second for Cabello (after “Havana” in 2018). The pair’s previous collaboration, 2015’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer” peaked at No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and its video has only been viewed 346 million times.
