Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello will be spending Christmas in Canada.
In multiple TV and radio interviews that were broadcast on Monday, Mendes revealed he and Camilla – and their 10-week-old golden retriever Tarzan – are flying north later this week.
“This is the most excited I’ve ever been to come back to Canada,” Mendes told eTalk. “I can’t wait. … I might never leave.”
The 22-year-old singer told Extra he and Camila will be quarantining with his parents and sister for the holidays at the family’s home in Pickering, east of Toronto.
Mendes won’t be able to go to his downtown Toronto condo during the first two weeks he is back in Canada. (COVID-19 restrictions require the couple to remain there for at least 14 days or risk fines of up to $750,000 and six months in jail.)

How is Cabello, who is Cuban-American, allowed to enter Canada under pandemic restrictions? Canada Border Services Agency will not comment on individual cases but said an extended family member – defined as a person 18 or over who “is in an exclusive dating relationship with” a Canadian and “has spent time in the physical presence of the person during the course of the relationship” – may be eligible for admission.
In 2018, Mendes told iHeartRadio about his family’s Christmas traditions.
“We eat so much food. Like, an unruly amount of food,” he shared. “It’s really just ridiculous how much food is on the table all the time.”
The singer said they watch movies like 1984's Gremlins (“because it’s in Christmas but it’s a horror movie. It’s like this really awesome mix for me”) and just hanging out.
“I love that I’m going to … just be in a robe all day and never leave my house,” he said. “Maybe step outside for fresh air once.”
