Shawn Mendes has earned his first ever No. 1 hit.
The 21-year-old Canadian singer’s collaboration with Camila Cabello, “Señorita,” tops the Billboard Hot 100 dated Aug. 30.
The song, which was released on June 21, knocked Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy” from No. 1 after one week (“Bad Guy” ended the record 19-week run of “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X”).
Mendes has never had a No. 1 song. “If I Can’t Have You,” released in May, peaked at No. 2. “Stitches” went to No. 4 in 2015 and both 2016’s “Treat You Better” and 2017’s “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” peaked at No. 6. “In My Blood” failed to crack the Top 10 and its follow-up “Lost in Japan” managed to only get to No. 48. “Life of the Party” peaked at No. 24, “Something Big” at No. 80 and “Mercy” at No. 15.
Mendes’ previous collaboration with Cabello, 2015’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” managed to get to No. 20.
“Señorita” is Cabello’s second No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 following 2017’s “Havana” ft. Young Thug.
The chart is compiled by Billboard using U.S. data for streaming, radio airplay and digital sales.
Mendes is one of eight songwriters credited on “Señorita.” He and Cabello will perform it live during Monday night’s MTV Video Music Awards.
