Teddy Geiger, the songwriting partner of Canada’s Shawn Mendes, is engaged to Canadian actress Emily Hampshire.
Hampshire broke the happy news Friday night with a series of photos on Instagram.
"#shesaidyes ...& she cried, then she made a video, then she posted it on insta and was glad she got her nails done today. My millennial girlfriend is now my millennial #fiance [sic] & I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.”
On her Instagram, Geiger added: “Which is why... When she asked me if I wanted to spend the rest of our lives together I said... YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES INFINITE YES I love u.”
Geiger, 30, announced in October 2017 that she was transitioning.
“I started talking about it with a couple of my close friends and family about a month ago and it’s given me the courage to start the process,” she explained in an Instagram exchange. "I feel like the next step is to tell all y’all. So here goes.
"Love it or hate this is who I have been for a looooong time.”
A former pop singer who released three albums between 2005 and 2010 and had a hit with “For You I Will (Confidence),” she has since crafted hits for Mendes like “Stitches,” “Treat You Better,” “In My Blood” and “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back.”
Geiger also dabbled in acting, appearing in the 2008 Toronto-shot comedy film The Rocker.
Hampshire, 37, was born in Montreal and has starred in a string of Canadian films and TV shows. She currently plays Stevie Budd in the hit series Schitt’s Creek.
This will be the second marriage for Hampshire, who divorced talent agent Matthew Smith after about eight years.
In May, Mendes opened up about Geiger’s transition and called it “incredible to watch.”
Mendes shared: “There was a moment when, I remember, I referred to Teddy as ‘she’ without thinking – and it takes time to be able to learn that, obviously – and the way she looked at me was [with] this intense amount of joy.
“And I swear if everybody in the world experienced one of their best friends, you know, experiencing that, there would be no questions. People would not be questioning it. It’s just not worth it to question it.”
