Songs recorded by Beyoncé and Elton John for The Lion King soundtrack are among 15 shortlisted for Best Original Song nominations at the 2020 Academy Awards.
The list, which was revealed on Monday, includes Beyoncé’s “Spirit” and John's “Never Too Late." The latter's Rocketman song “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” is also a contender.
Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke is also in the running with “Daily Battles” from Motherless Brooklyn, as well as “Letter to My Godfather” by Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo (from The Black Godfather).
Noticeably absent from the contenders is “Beautiful Ghosts,” the Cats track Taylor Swift wrote with composer Andrew Lloyd Weber. It earned a Golden Globe nomination earlier this month.
Seventy-five songs were eligible and nominees will be chosen from the shortlist and announced on Jan. 13. The Oscar for Best Original Song is awarded to the songwriters.
The 92nd Academy Awards will be broadcast live on CTV on Feb. 9
