Taylor Swift has officially endorsed Democratic nominee Kamala Harris for U.S. President.
In what has become an "endorsement fantasy" for Swifties and the press, the global superstar had seen enough of last night's (September 10) presidential debate, posting a lengthy message on Instagram declaring her support for the current vice president, along with a photograph of herself and her cat, Benjamin Button.
Opening with a push for people to do their own research to decide on which candidate to vote for, Swift acknowledged the recent use of AI to falsely illustrate her as endorsing Trump, calling it dangerous and and inspiring her to voice who she will be casting a vote for.
"I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election," she declares. "I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades."
Swift added a reminder that first time voters need to register in order to have their vote count, signing off as "Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady."
Swift's endorsement carries a lot of influence, especially amongst young women, who will be a key demographic in November's election. In ten hours Swift's Instagram post has received more than 7.8 million likes.
In the 2020 election, Swift endorsed Democratic nominee Joe Biden, and publicly called out Trump on Twitter for "stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism [for his] entire presidency," adding "we will vote you out in November."
