The video for Taylor Swift’s new single “Look What You Made Me Do” has smashed a YouTube record for first-day views of a music video set by Adele in 2015.
The video, which premiered during the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night, surpassed 27.7 million views at around 2 p.m. EST on Monday.
This beats the previous record for first-day views set by Adele’s made-in-Quebec video for “Hello.”
At the 24-hour mark, "Look What You Made Me Do" had collected a little under 40 million views.
Dropping to third place is “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber, which garnered 23.7 million views in its first 24 hours on YouTube in April.
Last week, Swift’s lyric video for “Look What You Made Me Do” set a record for most first-day views of a lyric video, with nearly 19 million.
Swift’s most successful video up until now was 2015’s “Bad Blood,” which had 20.1 million views in its first 24 hours. It’s since been since more than 1.1 billion times.
“Look What You Made Me Do” is the first single from Swift’s new album Reputation, which drops Nov. 10. It’s the singer’s first collection of new music since 2014’s 1989, which spawned hits like “Shake It Off” and “Blank Space” and earned a Grammy for Album of the Year.
Last year, Swift collaborated with Zayn on "I Don't Want to Live Forever" from the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack. The video won Best Collaboration at the MTV VMAs on Sunday.
