The hottest ticket in Toronto right now is to see Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, which kicked off last night (November 14).
In fact, tickets to see Swift are so hot right now, they are at the centre of a bitter divorce settlement between a Toronto couple.
Jane Cvijan, Senior Legal Counsel with M & Co. Law, told CP24 that "a Toronto couple are negotiating their separation terms right now,” which includes tickets to attend one of the Eras Tour shows.
Cvijan said it is a unique case for her, never having dealt with the ownership of concert tickets in a divorce settlement before.
“A couple who had purchased the tickets while they were still together are now figuring out how they are going to handle that now that the concert is taking place after their separation,” Cvijan said.
While the case needed to be resolved before Swift and company arrived in Toronto, additional considerations were required because such tickets are now worth more than what they original cost, with some going on resale sites now for five figure prices.
“In this case, because of the very specific concert that we are dealing with, the actual market value was going to be so much more than what the couple actually purchased the tickets for,” said Cvijan.
Cvijan said her firm gave the couple with three options: attend the concert together, allow one of them to buy the tickets off the other person for face value, or sell the tickets and divide the proceeds.
Lawyer-client privilege prevents Cvijan from revealing what the couple chose to do with the tickets, however, she said they weighed their options and were "happy with the outcome."
Cvijan said she was happy the couple could come to terms over the tickets, adding it’s a concert she’s going to herself.
Of course, this love story wasn't forever and always, and obviously they were never ever getting back together, but at least they were able to shake it off and let the end game be happiness instead of bad blood.
