Despite some pretty stellar career highs, The Chainsmokers are experiencing a bit of backlash from industry peers and the newest piece of criticism is going viral around the blogosphere. Earlier this week, Esquire published a think piece titled: "The Chainsmokers Are the Nickelback of EDM." It's all pretty self-explanatory, right?
Nonetheless, the EDM pair took to Instagram after the article spread all across the Interwebs to let folks know that they have no issue making fun of themselves, especially if that means adding fuel to an already viral fire.
"The Chainsmokers Are the Nickelback of EDM" examines the the rock band's artistry and brand, highlighting their astronomical mainstream success, all while criticizing their apparent sexist music. "The problem is, like Nickelback, The Chainsmokers sell their lowest-common-denominator sound using shameless sexism," the Esquire editor wrote, further arguing that the duo are to electro-pop what Nickelback were to post-grunge in the early 2000s.

While The Chainsmokers didn't respond to the specific criticism, they did make light of the comparison in a new Instagram post. With Alex Pall on piano, Draw Taggart puts on his best Chad Kroeger impression as he sings a mash-up of their newest single, "Paris," and Nickelback's "How You Remind Me."
Meanwhile, if you're in the mood for some new Nickleback, you'll be pleased to know that the band just released their new single, "Feed The Machine," earlier today. Now, that's what we call promo!
