The streaming movie The Dirt has sparked new interest in Mötley Crüe, the band’s record company has confirmed.
Not only did the film’s soundtrack debut at No. 10 on the Billboard 200, but their 1998 Greatest Hits collection has returned to the chart at No. 125.
Sony Music said streams of Crüe tracks have increased by as much 1000 per cent on some platforms and downloads are up 2000 per cent.
The movie has also boosted sales of its source material, the band’s 2001 autobiography.

The Dirt soundtrack features 18 songs, including four new recordings by Crüe and Canadian producer Bob Rock.
“During the filming … we got excited and inspired to write new music,” Nikki Sixx explained in February. “Getting back in the studio with Bob Rock just fueled the creative fires for us.”
In 2014, the members of Mötley Crüe signed a "cessation of touring agreement," pledging not to tour again under the Mötley Crüe name after Dec. 31, 2015.
