The Weeknd is locked in a legal battle with three British songwriters who claim he copied one of their songs.

Brian Clover and his Sonic Religion bandmates Scott McCulloch and Billy Smith allege that the Canadian singer’s 2016 Starboy track “A Lonely Night” borrows significantly from their 2004 song “I Need to Love.”

According to The Sun, The Weeknd’s legal reps have denied the claim and rejected a proposed settlement. No lawsuit has been filed.

“It is frustrating because it has always been our goal to have our names on an album by an artist,” Clover told the BBC.

“A Lonely Night” was co-written by The Weeknd with fellow Canadians Belly and Jason Quenneville and four others.
