The Who postponed Friday night’s concert in Dallas and one in Denver on Sunday so singer Roger Daltrey can rest his voice.
The 75-year-old ended a show on Wednesday in Houston about halfway through. “I think I should quit while I’m ahead,” he told the crowd.
Bandmate Pete Townshend, 74, apologized. “I’m really, really sorry,” he said. “Roger cannot actually speak now. Apparently before the show he saw a doctor, and you know, he’s been singing so f**king great through this tour.”
He added: “"When we come back, I don't know, but I swear to you, we will come back.”
In July, Daltrey told Billboard he expects he’ll have to stop singing around his 80th birthday.
“Obviously within the next five years I think my voice will go,” the rock star said. “Age will get it in the end.” But, he insisted his voice “is still there at the moment.”
The Who recently announced their first new album in 13 years will be released on Nov. 22.
