Pop star Troye Sivan can now call himself a Golden Globe nominee.
“GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINEE KHKGJTJFJGKGMHMHMGMHMG,” he tweeted Thursday morning after learning that his Jónsi collaboration, “Revelation,” was nominated for Best Original Song.
“Promise I’ll say something eloquent and sweet about it soon but for now what the f**k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
The song, from Boy Erased (in which he has a role), is up against the Kendrick Lamar and SZA collaboration “All the Stars” from Black Panther; Dolly Parton’s “Girl in the Movies” from Dumplin’; Annie Lennox’s “Requiem For a Private War” from A Private War; and the Lady Gaga-Bradley Cooper duet “Shallow” from A Star Is Born.
“Revelation” was written by Sivan and Jónsi (of Icelandic band Sigur Róswith) with Brett McLaughlin (aka Leland). It was released in October ahead of the opening of Boy Erased.
While the Golden Globes are often a good indicator of who will be nominated at the Oscars, it's a dubious honour. Winners are chosen by fewer than 100 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, a secretive group that includes a handful of Canadians who do not appear to be affiliated with any recognized media outlet.
Almost certainly, the Golden Globe for Best Original Song will go to "Shallow" from A Star Is Born.
The awards will be handed out on Jan. 6.
