Avril Lavigne lays to rest her "heartache and trauma" in the video for “I Fell in Love With the Devil,” which debuted on Monday.
Directed by Elliott Lester, the video begins with the Canadian singer driving a hearse carrying her own casket and goes on to show her playing piano in a forest cemetery and getting close to a mysterious man.
The Ontario-born singer said she wrote the song to remind herself “that some of the darkest people in this world can be disguised as angels.”

In a message she shared on Twitter, Lavigne explained: “Please allow my song to be your reminder to not let someone else’s demons take you down. I am now going to break this f**king cycle, bury all the toxic relationships and things people have done to me in the past, PRESENT & future.”
The track is from Lavigne's sixth studio album, Head Above Water, which dropped in February. She will launch her tour in September and make a stop on Oct. 6 at Toronto’s Meridian Hall.
Predictably, “I Fell in Love With the Devil” is coming under fire from some religious folks (who one would think are well-versed in metaphors) who are taking the title literally and taking issue with images of Lavigne clutching a crucifix.
