Hundreds of residents of condos in downtown Miami came out on their balconies on Saturday for a two-hour performance by David Guetta that raised $700,000 for COVID-19 relief.
The DJ and music producer, who lives several kilometres northeast in Miami Beach, played from the pool deck of the Icon Brickell. He partnered with the Miami Downtown Development Authority for United At Home.
"I’m still buzzing from what was an incredible night shared with many,” Guetta said, in a statement. “Although this is a very unusual time, it was magical to connect with you all through music last night. Most importantly, we’ve raised money that will help those who need it most.”
Early in his United At Home set, Guetta announced that he would match every dollar donated.
In addition to entertaining people in downtown Miami (police had to disperse crowds of people who gathered on the sidewalk below), Guetta’s livestream had a global audience of more than 10 million on social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube.
