Dolly Parton thrilled fans at the Newport Folk Festival on Saturday by making a surprise appearance.
The Rhode Island festival had promoted a performance by “♀♀♀♀: The Collaboration” that turned out to be Brandi Carlile (who was at the festival the night before with her new supergroup The Highwomen) and artists like Sheryl Crow, Maggie Rogers, Judy Collins, Linda Perry and Jade Bird.
"I just love surprises! You should have seen the look on your faces,” Parton tweeted after the show.
The 73-year-old country icon sang “Jolene,” “I Will Always Love You” and “Just Because I’m A Woman” before leading a performance of “9 to 5.” When it was over, Parton said "I have a plane to catch" and quickly exited the stage.
