Hailee Steinfeld has premiered the video for “Wrong Direction” a song fans are convinced is about Niall Horan.
The visual, directed by Alexandre Moors, shows the 23-year-old singing the emotional track while in a bathtub.
“I don’t hate you / No, I couldn’t if I wanted to,” Steinfeld sings. “I just hate all the hurt that you put me through.”
It’s not a stretch to believe the song – and its not-so-subtle title – is about Horan. Steinfeld and the former One Direction singer have never publicly spoken about their relationship but they reportedly split up at the end of 2018 after less than a year together.
“Lookin' back, I probably should have known / But I just wanted to believe that you were out sleepin' alone,” she sings.
Just as the video offers no clues, Steinfeld isn’t sharing who the song’s about.
“I know we’ve all been through hard times,” she tweeted. "Just remember you’re not alone. I’m so thankful we can grow from these experiences together.”
Steinfeld's single, which dropped Jan. 1, comes less than three months after Selena Gomez released "Lose You to Love Me," a similarly emotional ballad about her relationship with Justin Bieber.
