Régine Chassagne and husband Win Butler of Canada’s Arcade Fire appear in the just-released video for Butler’s remix of “Iko Kreyòl” by Lakou Mizik and the 79rs Gang ft. Chassagne and The Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
The track, which was released earlier this year, is a reimagining of the Mardi Gras classic “Iko Iko” and appears on Lakou Mizik’s album HaitiaNola, out Oct. 25. The original “Iko Iko” was released in the ‘50s as “Jock-A-Mo” and was a mainstream hit for The Dixie Cups in 1965.
The video, directed by Julia Simpson, was shot in New Orleans during February’s Krewe du Kanaval celebrations and in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
“Wherever I go in New Orleans I feel Haiti,” Chassagne, who was born in Montreal to Haitian immigrants, said in a release. “The music I hear, the food I taste, the colours, the movement, the spirit of the city.”
