The Rolling Stones have released “Living in a Ghost Town,” a timely track the band partly recorded during the COVID-19 lockdown.

“Life was so beautiful, then we all got locked down,” sings Mick Jagger. “Feel like a ghost living in a ghost town.”

A video for the song includes scenes of empty streets and subway stations in cities around the world. Shots of Toronto appear throughout the video, starting at the 13-second mark. (The iconic Bell Media building shows up at 3:25.)

In a release, Jagger said the song was one “we thought would resonate through the times that we’re living in right now.”

He added: “We’ve worked on it in isolation. And here it is … I hope you like it.”

The Stones started working on the song last year in Los Angeles and planned to include it on a new album. "Then s**t hit the fan,” Keith Richards explained. “Mick and I decided this one really needed to go to work right now.”

Last month, the Stones announced the postponement of their 15-city North American tour, including a May 12 date in Vancouver, due to the global threat of COVID-19. “We are very sorry to all the fans who were looking forward to it as much as we were, but the health and safety of everyone has to take priority," read a statement. The band members range in age from 72 to 78.
