Fans are getting an inside look at Shawn Mendes’ life in Casey Neistat's new documentary, which premiered Friday.
The video had more than 17,000 "likes" even before it premiered and more than 22,000 fans around the world were watching live when it finally debuted.
"I'm never going to be so young, and stupid, and wide-eyed," Mendes says at one point in the 14-minute video.
Part of YouTube’s Artist Spotlight Story series, the video goes behind-the-scenes as Mendes performs on the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas and promotes his new album in the UK.
Mendes talks about his childhood in Ontario and how he realized he wanted to be a singer. It includes footage of a much younger Mendes busking in Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square and clips from some of his early YouTube videos.

Mendes also talks about his anxiety and self-doubt. Asked how often he gets nervous, the singer replies: "Always, man. Nerves mean you care, right?"
Near the end of the video, Mendes expresses his gratitude for his fans. "I'm really lucky to be doing what I'm doing and I just want to say 'thank you' to them because no other words can really express how I feel," he says.
Mendes then gets choked up talking about what it took to achieve global success. "It's crazy when you think about it," he says. "I don't know what to say about it."
