Whitney Houston was molested as a child by her cousin Dee Dee Warwick, the late sister of singer Dionne Warwick, according to a new documentary feature that premiered Wednesday at Cannes.
In Whitney, Houston’s longtime assistant Mary Jones claims the singer told her about the molestation. Houston’s brother Gary also reveals he was molested as a child by a female family member.

Dee Dee was 18 years older than Houston. The film suggests the abuse took place while Houston’s mother Cissy was on tour.
In the film, which was made with the cooperation of the late singer’s family, Jones says the sexual abuse was a factor in Houston’s drug addiction and made her question her own sexuality.
Houston died in 2012 at 48.
Whitney opens July 6.
