With a little more than a month to go, the Woodstock 50 festival has been denied a permit to stage the festival in Vernon, New York.
Variety quoted an Oneida County administrator as saying organizers failed to meet “many of the requirements” for a permit. They have five days to appeal but the decision, said Anthony Picente Jr., but their chances are “highly unlikely.”
Woodstock 50, scheduled for Aug. 16 to 18, was originally scheduled to take place in Watkins Glen, New York, with an eclectic line-up that included The Killers, The Lumineers, Miley Cyrus, Jay-Z, The Black Keys and Imagine Dragons.
But, in late April, organizers pulled the plug when its backers bailed.
“We don’t believe the production of the festival can be executed as an event worthy of the Woodstock Brand name,” read a statement, “while also ensuring the health and safety of the artists, partners and attendees.”
Promoter Michael Lang vowed to find a new location.
The original Woodstock was held in August 1969 in Bethel, nearly three hours southeast of Watkins Glen.
