LISTEN: Justin Bieber Debuts 'Yummy'
Justin Bieber launched his comeback overnight by debuting “Yummy,” the first single from his forthcoming fifth studio album.
It’s the first solo music from Bieber since he released the album Purpose in 2015 and comes roughly two weeks shy of the 10th anniversary of Bieber’s debut single “Baby.”
Then, a 15-year-old Bieber sang: “And I was like baby, baby, baby oh / Like baby, baby, baby no / Like baby, baby, baby oh.” Now, he sings: “Yeah you got that yummy yum / that yummy yum / that yummy yummy … yeah babe, yeah babe.”
The new song is clearly about a woman – wife Hailey Baldwin, hopefully – with Bieber singing about their “rolling eyes back in my head / make my toes curl” kind of love.
The lyric video will be followed by an official music video at noon. (Bieber is set to do a live chat an hour before the premiere.)
Next up is the debut of a 10-part YouTube docuseries, Justin Bieber: Seasons, on Jan. 27. The album, which Bieber described late last year as a collection of “the music that I’ve loved the most out of anything that I’ve done,” will come out ahead of the May launch of a tour that includes four Canadian stops in September.
In July 2017, Bieber pulled the plug on his Purpose World Tour with 15 shows to go – including two in Toronto – because he was burned out. That same year he was heard on the BloodPop track “Friends” and a remix of the Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee smash “Despacito.”
Since then, Bieber collaborated with Ed Sheeran for last year’s “I Don’t Care” and with Dan + Shay on “10,000 Hours.” The Canadian pop star is also featured on a remix of the and Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy.”
